Will a BMW MINI take on Africa?

The Gulf Oils Endurance Category:
For family cars produced since 2002 with classes; up to 1400cc, and up to 1600cc. Cars may be diesel or petrol-engined, two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. Only diesel cars may be turbocharged. Cars may be strengthened and modified.

The Gulf Oils young driver award of £10,000 will be presented to the best modern car up to 1600cc where both crew-members are 30 years old, or younger at the time of the start. (The Gulf Oils winners are not eligible for any further prize monies).

The Lifebuoy Soap Classic Cars Category:
This is for Classic Cars of a model type in production before December 1986. There are two classes, up to two-litres, and over two-litres, with trophies presented by Lifebuoy Soap. Note: Older Mercedes, Peugeot 504s and 404s, Volvos and early Datsuns are still in regular use in many of the countries along our route, and are the type of cars we would regard as a reasonably practical proposition.

4x4s are eligible for the Camel Trophy

The Camel Trophy, the 4x4 Category:
For any 4x4 over 1600cc, of any year. Only Diesel-powered cars may be turbocharged.

There will be two classes: Up to 2.5 litres, and over 2.5 litres. Winners of the Camel Trophy Category will receive two trophies.

Ahead lies a route of great contrasts through constantly changing conditions with no two days ever the same. A true test of man and machine against the elements, pitted against the backdrop of breathtaking scenery.

Now is the time to start preparing.
